JFK Inaugural Address

President Kennedy believes that true progress only results from nations working together for change. On page 2 of the speech it says, "Let all our neighbors know that we shall join with them to oppose aggression or subversion anywhere in the Americas." This demonstrates that John F. Kennedy genuinely felt that all of the nations need to work together in order to get things done. Sub

Open ended

How people generally react to those who are willing to step aside the box of comfortability and normality and behave in a way that is considered unconventional or unacceptable is that they feel as if that person or groups of people will not succeed. People feel as if they should try & stop them. In the movie "Glory Road" when Don Haskins allowed african americans to play & start in the basketball games, nobody really accepted it. They thought he was crazy, they thought it was a bad idea. This demonstrates that people do not like it the least bit when somebody is brave enough to step out of the normal thing to do something that is not ordinally done. This movie reminds me of a movie called "Men of Honor" because the man wanted to be the first black navy diver and people gave him a hard time. Just because he was doing something different. It was important that Don Haskins thought differently because he changed who could play basketball forever & people didn't like him for it but he did what he had to do.

the marlin in my life

There is a marlin in everyones lives. Nobody has a perfect life & everybody is always going to have obstacles that they have to overcome. Something is always stopping people from getting where they need to be or where they are trying to be. The Marlin in my life was my english class. In the beginning of the year during first marking period is when I had my Marlin. In the begining of the school year there was only one class that I had a bad grade in. This class was english. For some reason I just did not push myself to work to my best abilities & that really messed me up in the long run. I was not taking those missing assignments very seriously, let alone the class itself. I ended up getting a very low grade in that class & I told myself that I would get a higher grade than that of the grade I got on my progress report. I tried to do better but I fell back into my old habits of not doing my homework or forgetting about it when it was due the next day. I noticed that I work better under pressure so I usually wait until the day before it was due to actually do it & thatnot good at all. On my report card I got a worse grade than before. I decided that it was time for a real change. The next marking period I did most of the work that was given to me. On my progress report I got a B in that class. I noticed that all of my efforts were paying off. By time the report cards came out I had an A. I had finally gotten the grade that I was aiming for. I had overcome the obsticle of a failing grade. I noticed that it was not that hard either, it was o nly me being lazy for no reason at all.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. fought and died to make the changes that we have today and we are treating them as if it were just a doormat. "...And I've seen the promised land... But I want you to know that we as a people will get to the promised land." Dr. King dreamed of what the promised land was, he knew what his idea of it was. He felt in his heart confidence that we will get to where we are now, even without him. If Dr. King walked into this school tomorrow, he would be proud of the diversity, but not the way we behave.
First, our school is very diverse. There are many different races in one class alone, so the hallway is just booming with diversity. For the most part, we all get along just fine and if we don't race is most likely not the reason why. We all fit in just fine, no matter if we are black, white, or brown. There are people here that are black, white, Jamaican, Spanish, and so on and so forth. The same with the teachers. He would be awed.
Aside from our school's diversity, the students here behave as if they were wild animals.Running around the hallways and yelling profanities. In Plainfield High School, you can not go one hour without hearing at least one or two profanities. Dr. King was not only a peaceful man, but he was a heavy duty pacifist. There are a plethora of hitting and fighting going on in the halls every single day. I am more than sure that he would not like that at all, in fact he would be ashamed.
All together, he would probably be happy about the diversity in this school but not the way we behave. Dr. King would be so upset at the way we act, its ridiculous. He did not even like for the people who were following him and who believed in him to be violent in any way, shape or form. he believed that you must be nice to your enemies no matter what they do to you. Do not retaliate. his dream was to not only be diverse, but to be well behaved.

Hyperbole in Literacy

A hyperbole is an exaggeration of something to prove a point to someone or about something.
It is an important part of writing because it creates a better understanding of what it is that the aurthor is talking about.

Appetite

In a house the size of postage stamp
lived a man as big as a barge.
His mouth could drink the entire river
You could say it was rather large
For dinner he would eat a trillion beans
And a silo of grain,
Washed it down with a tanker of milk
As if he were a drain.

The tone of this aurthor is playful, funny.
My mood about this poem is that I feel as if I can imagine all of the things that he is describing and talking about. I think it is funny.

A Thousand Years by Christina Perri
I have died everyday
Waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid
I have loved you for a
Thousand years
and I'll love you for a thousand more

my grandfather. ..

"At the time your grandmother was pregnant with me. Your grandfather was poor and his father was dying. He did not have much time to live, so he had to do it. Go beyond those clouds and onto that cliff to find the cure for his father's sickness before it was too late. He had about 2 months to find that special plant that would make his father better and live. Your greatgrandmother & grandmother could not stomach the thought of him even thinking about such a thin, especially with a baby on the way. He did not care, he loved his father more than anything and he would do whatever it was for him to survive. He brought water with him & the little bit of food he could carry in his small duffle bag with him to the cliffs. He tied his boat off and started to climb the cliffs. He knew that no one lived to tell what was behind the cloud, but he still climbed. For the sake of his father, he climbed, and climbed, and climbed. For 12 hours; breaks in between but very little and very short. He saw skeletons of bodies that were who knows how many years old but he never got discouraged once. He finally made it. His light borown hair had been ruffled, his clothes ripped, skin peeling. Dirt & blood covered them & his green eyes were burning red due to lack of rest. He had expected for the peak to be opaque just like half the cliffs. But it wasn't.. it was so green, so beautiful, so alive, booming with life. He walked over to a freshwater lake & drank from it. The water was delicious, completely transparent. Everything was perfect there. He walked for a very long time before he heard anything else other than chirping and other animal noises. The voice said "William Micheal Sonenclair, we've been awaiting your arrival" he walked towards the big voices until he saw 3 men dressed in white. They told him that they knew about his hardships & his father & his journey there. They told him that he had to find the special plant because even they didn't know where it was. But they gave him a plant. A special plant, it was beautiful. The men told your grandfather that the sicker his father gets, the more the plant would die. When the plants dies completely, so does his father. But first they got him clean up & got some food in his system before he carried on. There was houses in which he could stay at while he searched at just in case he got tired or hungry he could go there. He asked them "why was it that I was the only one who could make it up here? It was hard but not completely toture. The men said it was because he came up there for someone other than himself. He didn't to it to be selfish like the rest of the men who had came. He searched for weeks, he knew he couldn't give up on his father. The more the plant deteriorated, the harder he worked to find that special plant. One month passed & nothing. The flower only got worse. 2 weeks before the day his father was due to die, he found the plant. He ran to the men in white and told them. By then the flower was almost dead. He got to the ground, back into his boat, and back to his villiage before the plant died completely. I was born by then & that just made him happier. His dad didn't die until God felt like it was time. Your grandfather was a very brave man. He became one of the the wealthiest man in the state. He was strong for me, his father, his mother & for your greatgrandmother. So be strong for him"
My name is William Micheal Sonenclair V and I am the grandson of legendary William Micheal Sonenclair III. My grandfather died. My dad told me that story the night before my grandfather was due to die. I will pass it on to my son & he will pass it on to his. Idon't really remember my grandfather since I was only 4 or 5 when he died. I have a few pictures but that's all. You know what its not.. I have his name, his success, his bravery & his green eyes. I love that man more than anything in the world.. just like he love his dad. I'm happy he climbed those cliffs. Nobody ever climbed them again, but I will.

What does my dreams mean?

When I was younger, and for some reason I will never forget this dream, I was about 5 when I had it. My family and I were sitting inside of our patio talking, I was the only one facing towards the backyard where the pool was and there was a random snowman on the ladder of the pool (it was the middle of the summer btw.). When I looked at the snowman it turned evil & it really scared the mess out of me but when I told my family to look at it, it was normal. Nobody paid any attention to me. This happened over & over throughout the dream. Then, out of nowhere I was in a car & there was no driver, the snowman was following me in a separate car. But that's all I remember, I told everybody in my family about this dream because I was so scared. I'm not really sure what the dream meant at all, I kind of have a clue, though. Dreams about family gatherings usually represents security, warmth and love. It could also symbolize bitterness, jealousy, or more. Now that I actually think about it, I was the youngest of all the grandchildren and nieces & I got more attention than anyone else. It was kind of weird that I hardly got any attention in this dream because I got so much in reality. My mom was pregnant with my little brother at the time, about 8 months. When he was born all of the attention shifted to him. Where the snowman came from chasing me in a car without a driver, I don't know. Just like a mood ring or necklace, literature also uses colors to symbolize various different meanings. In Romeo and Juliet, when Friar Lawrence is talking to Romeo about the poison, he says something about poison not only intended for evil purposes. Poison symbolizes how society tends to take something that is beneficial and use it in a way that is harmful or deadly. The feud between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s itself is an example of this. The hate between the two families turns the love between Romeo and Juliet into something that is deadly. He says that when humans get their hands on something good, they can turn it bad, which is what they did between the love of Romeo and Juliet.
