1,000 Words

The picture that I chose out of the 40 pictures is the last one. The caption of the photo is " A dog named "Leao" sits for a second consecutive day at the grave of her owner, who died in the disastrous landslides near Rio de Janiero on January 15, 2011". To me, this picture means much more than 1,000 words. In this photo I see a more than loyal dog sit at the grave of her owner who had died 2 days earlier. The dog stays by her owner's side no matter what. I see a hurting dog who misses the physical presence of her "mom" or "dad". Yes, there are a great amount of beautiful pictures there but this one actually made my eyes water. As you can see in the picture, Leao is sitting directly beside the grave of her owner with the look of great worry on her face. Wondering when her parent is coming back, or perhaps she knew that her owner was dead because she can feel her... there are multiple graves dug up & probably even more graves that are occupied by other bodies. Leao didn't run away or stray off somewhere. I don't know how she knew that that particular grave is her owner's. Leao doesn't look like she had eaten or even drank anything after the two days since her owner had died during the mud slide. That dog has to be one of the most devoted dogs that anyone had ever seen in their lives. Even people tend to move on & only think about their deceased loved ones only every once in a while. People want to forget about the pain, but Leao isn't going anywhere. If she didn't leave after the first two days, why would she leave later on.. later on maybe someone will take Leao into their home. She's probably going to run away & go back to the grave. Or, maybe the new owner of Leao will treat her well & she'll sit by his/her grave when they die. She probably can't even withstand anymore pain considering the fact that she already looks beyond torn apart in the photo. Hopefully, though there is someone standing beside her when she passes.

That Random Guy

I live in Lisbon, Portugal. Tourists are typical in this part, when there is barely any rainfall at all, usually in June,July and August. Where I live holds some of Europe's mildest weather and warmest winters seasons. No wonder why we have a lot of tourists... Believe me, we've had our fair share of weird tourists, but this guy stood out from them all. I think his name is Matt, or something like that. From what he explained to me, he has this Youtube thing he does. He dances in front of international landmarks and street scenes and gets random people to dance with him. I think its cool. On my way to the pet store, Matt asked me & some locals to join him in his video. I absolutely loved the idea. I was ecstatic because I watched his video from 2006 and it was just my luck that I was asked to do this. Nobody had thought twice about their decision, he asked & they said yes right away. Everyone in the crowd had been of different ages, too. The day was particularly sunny day even though I wouldn't say it had been the hottest of days. If I can recall, it had been about 85 degrees outside that day. A great amount of by-standers watched as we danced our hearts out in front of the huge gated building on those steps. I'm guessing everyone had woken up on the right side of the bed that day, because you could sure tell. I had so much fun I forgot what I was going to the pet store for in the first place until I got home & found my cat's food bowl empty... oops.
